New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman tweeted that Donald Trump believes that he will be reinstated as President in August and has been telling confidantes that the audits will prove the election was “stolen”. Haberman who broke several White House stories during Trump’s time in office was responding to a video posted by CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan of MAGA supporters saying they would like to see Trump reinstated following a Myanmar-style military coup.

It follows General Mike Flynn and former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell floating the idea of a coup at a QAnon rally over the weekend. The idea has gained traction in recent months after the initial QAnon prediction that Trump would regain power at Biden’s inauguration failed to materialize. Prominent Trump supporters such as MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell have continued to push the theory in the right-wing media ecosystem and have been aided by the avidly pro-Trump One America News.

Verdict

Although these theories have continued to bubble up, no evidence of election malfeasance has yet been produced. Fueling the latest rumors is the ongoing Arizona audit and a concerted push by conservative activists to conduct reviews in other states. If Haberman’s claims are true, it would appear Trump has bought into the theory that the audits will reveal he not Biden won the election.
