Twitter bans MyPillow CEO for false ‘election fraud’ claims

Pollemix News – January 26, 2021
Twitter continued their crackdown on accounts claiming that the election was ‘stolen’ from former President Donald Trump by banning one of his most high profile supporters, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, for repeated instances of ‘spreading misinformation’.

The larger-than-life businessman has been one of Trump’s most ardent supporters, stumping for the ex-President on the campaign trail and contributing heavily to his election war chest. Following Trump’s defeat, Lindell became one of the most prominent ‘Stop the Steal’ advocates, repeatedly claiming that the election was stolen from Trump through voter fraud and “rigged” voting machines. Lindell’s debunked claims of ‘rigged’ voting machines has also placed him in legal jeopardy, with Dominion Voting Systems signaling their intent to launch lawsuits against high profile figures that pushed the conspiracy that their machines were rigged, having already filed suits against Trump lawyers Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani. Lindell seemed unperturbed by the potential threat, however, urging Dominion to sue him so that he would be able to uncover the voter fraud ‘evidence’:

“I want them to sue me. Please. Because I have all the evidence, 100%. I want all the American people and the world to see the horrific things that these (Dominion voting) machines are capable of and what they did to our country and what — they’re allowing other countries to steal our election and just to hijack our election.”

Only a week ago Lindell was seen leaving a meeting with Trump at the White House with notes saying “martial law” and “insurrection act”, suggesting that he was still pushing for Trump to declare a military coup with only days remaining till Biden’s inauguration. Lindell had also tweeted a post after the election urging Trump to declare martial law in the 7 battleground states that he was defeated.

It has been a difficult post-election environment for Lindell, with his unwavering support for Trump and parroting of election fraud theories having a detrimental effect on his business as well as his personal life. Only last week Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s and Wayfair dropped MyPillow products from their stores in response to Lindell’s claims that Antifa were responsible for the January 06 Capitol Hill riots.

The news of his removal from Twitter may also effect his future political ambitions as he has teased a run for Governor of Minnesota in 2022 and like Trump he had built up a large conservative following on the platform. Lindell has yet to comment on the ban but his dismissal shows that the Twitter purge that began with Donald Trump is far from over.

Should Trump have been banned from Twitter?

Former President Donald Trump was banned from major social media for "inciting violence" following the Capitol Hill riot. Those in favor of the ban argue that as private companies 'big tech' has the right to determine what constitutes 'hate speech' or violent rhetoric on their platform. Meanwhile, opponents argue that Trump's free speech rights are being violated.
