As the Taliban tightens its grip in Afghanistan, refugees are fleeing the war-torn country and begging to be resettled in the US. President Biden has committed to allowing in 22,000 Afghan refugees, with preference to allies that helped the war effort by acting as translators, informants or spies for the US Army. Some on the right wing have expressed dismay, claiming that such a large influx of foreigners will have a detrimental effect on the US culture. Conversely, pro-refugee advocates say that America is turning its back by not accepting enough refugees and abandoning the people of Afghanistan.
