Hannity mocked for ‘slobbering, softball’ Trump interview

Pollemix News – April 19, 2021
Former President Donald Trump sat down with his favorite Fox host Sean Hannity to discuss Joe Biden’s presidency and Trump’s plans for the future. Hannity was among the most ardent supporters of the Trump administration during his tenure and the Fox host was as smitten as ever with the former President, vacillating between heaping praise and lobbing a series of softball questions. The tone of the interview was clear from the outset as Hannity opened with a fawning statement masquerading as a question:

“I know a lot of people that are around you every day and this is what they’re all telling me. You are working as hard as you did when you were in the White House, except you play a little golf more.”

Despite the obsequious nature of the interview there were some interesting revelations from Trump, who was more subdued and measured in his responses then some of his more bombastic appearances on Hannity in the past. Most notably, Trump left open the possibility that he may well run again in 2024, in what will be a huge fillip to a Republican base that remains fiercely loyal to their beloved leader. Trump also committed to campaigning hard on behalf of GOP candidates in the 2022 mid-Term elections when asked by Hannity whether he would continue to lead the party. A move that may well be viewed as a double-edged sword for GOP leadership who remain torn between diminishing Trump’s dominance over the party, whilst needing to retain the unrivaled enthusiasm and turnout of the MAGA base to flip control of Congress.

Interestingly, Trump also reiterated his support for the vaccine and urged his supporters to get the shot now that it was available to them. Despite Trump’s popularity, vaccine hesitancy remains high among Republicans with nearly 47% of Trump voters saying they would not get the vaccine versus only 10% of Biden supporters. He also panned the Biden White House for temporarily stalling the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, pointing out that only 6 people had developed clots from approximately 7 million administered shots. Trump even suggested that the ‘pause’ may have been instigated by pharmaceutical rival Pfizer to undermine the vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson and further claimed that Pfizer had delayed their announcement of a vaccine till 2 days after the 2020 election to increase Biden’s chances of winning the Presidency.

Despite the revelations, much of the post-interview commentary on social media was focused on Hannity’s cringe-worthy sycophancy throughout the interview. It really should not have come as a surprise, however, considering the Fox host’s unflinching support for Trump in the past. In fact during Trump’s presidency Hannity was frequently referred to as ‘Trump’s unofficial chief of staff’, so it was inevitable that the interview would be an unabashed love-fest rather than a hard-hitting exposé.

USER POLL: Who’s Trump’s most fawning media bootlicker?

User Poll: Submitted by Kaynes

As soon as Donald Trump burst onto the political scene, the media bifurcated into two camps. Mainstream media relentlessly attacked him as unfit for office and cast most of their Trump coverage in a negative light.

Conversely, conservative media and right wing radio became increasingly obsequious and deified the former President as the savior of America. Fox News in particular became the President's voice in many ways with the network's fawning and sycophantic coverage criticized as being akin to that of North Korean state media. Which right wing media figure do you think was Trump's most servile lapdog?
