Former President Trump's impeachment got under way today with 6 GOP Senators siding with Democrats to vote for the proceedings to continue, despite the Trump legal team's argument to dismiss the case on the grounds that it was not constitutional to impeach a President who was no longer in office.
For Donald Trump to be impeached it would require 17 Republican Senators to vote to convict which is extremely unlikely to occur. Nevertheless, some GOP Senate members are still said to be considering voting against their former leader Trump to send a message to the far right of the party that the establishment is still in control. Should those Republican Senators who vote for Trump's conviction be ousted from the GOP?
