Trump slams Democrats after Jan 6 probe demands mental health and phone records

Donald Trump blasted Democrats “partisan sham” inquest after they demanded his mental health records and phone communications as part of their inquest into the January 06 Capitol Riot. Pelosi’s select committee seeks to uncover Trump’s involvement in the violence and mayhem on January 06. The probe will also investigate whether the former President was seeking to use the military to retain power. They also issued subpoenas for information on Trump allies Rudy Giuliani, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and Trump’s children.

Additionally, the probe will investigate whether Trump colluded with groups connected to the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally. These include the Oath Keepers, QAnon supporters, Alex Jones, Proud Boys and former Trump adviser Roger Stone. Committee chair Bennie Thompson said in a statement that the panel was “examining the facts, circumstances, and causes of the January 6th attack.”
A furious President Trump responded to the request with an angry denunciation of the Democrat-led inquest.
“The Leftist ‘select committee’ has further exposed itself as a partisan sham and waste of taxpayer dollars with a request that’s timed to distract Americans from historic and global catastrophes brought on by the failures of Joe Biden and the Democrats,” Trump said. “These Democrats only have one tired trick—political theater—and their latest request only reinforces that pathetic reality,” he added.
Democrats are determined to make the case Trump’s rhetoric and refusal to accept his defeat caused the Capitol Hill riot. Republicans, however, maintain that it was disparate groups of agitators that were behind the attack. Nevertheless, it seems evident that there will be no respite for the former President as Democrats doggedly continue their inquest.
Verdict
Trump’s specter still looms large over the Republican Party which remains in thrall to the popular former President. Thus, many Republicans remain wary of antagonizing either Trump or the loyal MAGA base by cooperating with the investigation. Meanwhile, Democrats see the probe as an opportunity to displace President Biden’s disastrous Afghan withdrawal from the front pages. Furthermore, Biden’s plummeting approval rating has them fearing their nightmare scenario of a Trump 2024 victory is becoming increasingly possible. Thus, the Democrats hope that by pinning the Capitol Hill attack on Trump they can torch any chance of his return to the Presidency.
