Nancy Pelosi officially nominated for House Speaker

Despite reports of internal disputes over her leadership following House Democrats lacklustre performance in the 2020 Election cycle, Nancy Pelosi was nominated for a 4th Term as Speaker by her Democratic colleagues. Pelosi has promised that this term will be her last as Speaker, a commitment she made in 2018 after an internal revolt in the Party called for new blood in leadership.
Pelosi has been at the helm as Speaker each time Democrats have had a majority in the House since 2007 and has generally had the unqualified support of her caucus behind her, however, she now faces a much tougher challenge of uniting a Party deeply divided between progressives and moderates with vastly different agendas and legislative goals. Further complicating matters is the Republican gains in the 2020 Election leave Pelosi with a narrow margin in the House and with Republicans likely to retain the Senate it seems inevitable that Washington will remain in a permanent state of legislative gridlock for the forseeable future.
