Background

Joe Rogan tore into Donald Trump yesterday, warning that he was still able to incite his supporters to commit violence. Rogan also argued that a commission to investigate the Capitol Riot was vital to prevent a repeat in future. Responding to podcast guest Saagar Enjati downplaying the need for an investigation, Rogan pushed back.

“I think it’s really important. And one of the reasons why I think it’s important is because it highlights the reasons why a guy like Donald Trump is so fucking dangerous. Because a guy can incite a bunch of morons to do something really fucking stupid.”

Rogan continued, “And now that he’s silenced off of social media, and now that that actually did happen, once it becomes a thing, it could be like mass shootings. Right? They didn’t exist. Then they did. Now they’re a thing. That could be a thing.”

Although Enjati called the January 6 attack “horrific” he claimed the commission would become a farce akin to Benghazi.

“If it was a real commission, I would believe you, Joe. But knowing how these things work, I know that this commission would be some sort of bullshit, like the Benghazi report before it or many of these others.”

Rogan’s political sympathies changed several times throughout the 2020 election. He initially supported Tulsi Gabbard, however, he eventually endorsed Bernie Sanders when she failed to gain traction in the primaries. However, once Biden became the nominee Rogan suggested, “I’d rather vote for Trump than Biden.” Expressing doubts over Biden’s age and cognitive capacity to handle the Presidency. Following Rogan’s tacit endorsement, Trump even tweeted in support of Rogan moderating a Presidential debate on his podcast.

“If it was a real commission, I would believe you, Joe,” Enjeti responded. “But knowing how these things work, I know that this commission would be some sort of bullshit, like the Benghazi report before it or many of these others.”

Verdict

In May of last year Rogan inked a $100 Million deal with Spotify, cementing his status as today’s most popular podcaster. Importantly, Rogan enjoys a cult following among young men that rivals the divine status Trump holds among his own supporters. Rogan’s audience regard him as even-handed and unbiased, thus his words hold powerful sway. Therefore, with nearly 200 million listeners per month to his podcast Rogan’s scathing takedown of Trump and his supporters will certainly have an impact.

POLL: Should there be a Commission to find out who caused the Capitol Hill Insurrection?

Following the Capitol Riots, Democrats are determined to pin the blame on Donald Trump's rhetoric. Republicans meanwhile are blaming left-wing agitators and the FBI for the riots. Therefore, Democrats are pushing for a bipartisan Commission into the January 06 attack.

Should Congress launch a bipartisan Commission into what sparked the Capitol Hill Riot?
