WATCH: ‘Don’t Take me, Take Melania’ Cohen claims Trump will flip on wife and kids to avoid jail

Disgraced Trump attorney Michael Cohen appeared on MSNBC where he told host Joy Reid that his former boss would be prepared to throw wife Melania and his kids Eric, Ivanka and Don Jr if it meant avoiding jail. Cohen was once among Trump’s staunchest allies and orchestrated the non-disclosure agreement and payout to pornstar Stormy Daniels to remain tight-lipped about her affair with the ex-President. In 2018, however, Cohen was sentenced to 3 years in prison over tax evasion and violating campaign finance laws, which he claims were done at the behest of Trump. He was granted an early release due to concerns over Covid-19 and is serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Since his release, the man who was once known as the “pit bull” for his savage attacks on Trump critics has become increasingly vocal in his condemnation of Trump and regularly appears on television to skewer his ex-chief. Perhaps more worryingly for Trump, Cohen has met with investigators from the Southern District of New York (SDNY) who launched an investigation into Donald Trump’s tax affairs and business dealings immediately after he left office. It was also announced yesterday that NY Attorney General Leticia James is running a concurrent criminal investigation into the Trump organization, compounding the former President’s legal woes.
As a former member of Trump’s inner circle, prosecutors will be hoping that if there is any criminal activity that Cohen will know ‘where the bodies are buried.’ Crucially, Cohen seems more than ready to flip on his former boss and has repeatedly made proclamations that Trump has indulged in a number of financial crimes, namely fraud and tax evasion. Trump himself has remained uncharacteristically quiet on Cohen publicly in recent times, however, it seems likely that there will be little love lost between the ex-President and the lawyer who was once among his closest confidantes.
