WATCH: AOC says ‘QAnon’ and ‘White Supremacists’ control the GOP

Pollemix News – January 28, 2021
Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared on MSNBC where she tore into Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for not curbing the extremism of some of his GOP colleagues. Asked by host Chris Hayes about her reaction to the January 06 Capitol Hill riots, the New York representative suggested it was a byproduct of increased radicalization within the GOP caucus:

“This term there are legitimate white supremacist sympathizers that sit at the heart and at the core of the Republican caucus in the House of Representatives. Adding, “…in the House Republican caucus, Kevin McCarthy answers to these QAnon members of congress, not the other way around.”

Ocasio-Cortez appearance on MSNBC was in response to a CNN expose of freshman Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s social media posts which showed her expressing support for assassinating Democrats including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Following that revelation, a video of Greene harassing gun control activist David Hogg also emerged, as well as posts suggesting that the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting was a ‘false flag’.

Greene’s past comments coming to light is the latest headache for GOP House Leader McCarthy who, like his Senate counterpart Mitch McConnell, is battling to clamp down on the civil war between the Trump wing of the party and the centrist ‘old guard’ within the GOP. McCarthy is expected to give Representative Greene a ‘dressing down’ for her past social media activity but this did little to placate Ocasio-Cortez who suggested it was little more than lip service saying:

“When I hear that Rep. McCarthy is going to pull a member aside who has made white supremacist sympathizing comments, the thing I think is: What is he going to tell them? Keep it up?” she said.

“Because there are no consequences in the Republican caucus for violence. There’s no consequences for racism. No consequences for misogyny. No consequences for insurrection. And no consequences means that they condone it.”

Democrats have been increasingly vocal in calling for Republicans to face repercussions for ‘inciting’ the January 06 Capitol Hill assault, with senior Democrats calling for Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz to also be tried for “inciting an insurrection” alongside President Trump. As was to be expected after Marjorie Taylor Greene’s social media past came to light, there has been an equally concerted push by Democrats for her to be expelled from congress or at least be removed from any committee assignments.

POLL: Is the Right wing or Left wing more extremist?

The 2020 Election showed that the US is more divided than ever along partisan lines, with both sides increasingly appealing to the more extreme elements of their base. Who is more radicalized?
