Trump's supporters have accused Democrats of seeking to settle political scores with a show trial impeachment of a President that has already left office and warned that they are establishing a dangerous precedent. Meanwhile, Democrats insist that Trump must face consequences for trying to subvert democracy but they are unlikely to muster the 17 Republican votes required to convict Trump in the Senate.
