With President Biden in the White House, Democrats are looking to advance their long held goal of granting statehood to Washington DC and Puerto Rico. As they prepare to table a bill to make D.C the 51st state, Republicans are up in arms over the proposal claiming that it is being advanced solely to guarantee a permanent Democratic majority in the Senate.
Supporters for DC becoming a state say that there should be no taxation without representation and that DC has a greater population than both Wyoming and Vermont. Yet while those two states each have two Senators, the District of Columbia has no representation in Congress.
