Pence still angry with Trump over lack of concern for his safety in Capitol Hill riot

Pollemix News – February 11, 2021
Former Vice President Mike Pence, who was the main target of the MAGA mob that attacked Capitol Hill last month, apparently still harbors “residual bitterness” towards Donald Trump after the former President failed to show any level of empathy or concern for Pence’s safety in the aftermath of the failed insurrection.

Fox News host Chris Wallace appearing on ‘The Story’ with host Martha MacCallum claimed that Pence was livid with Trump for not inquiring about his VP’s well-being after he was forced to cower in fear with his family as the mob ransacked the Capitol, with cries of “hang Mike Pence” echoing through the hallways. Even in the midst of the chaos, Trump tweeted “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution,” with the post coming only 10 minutes after Pence was forced to evacuate the Senate chamber to escape the terrorist horde baying for his blood.

The attack on Capitol Hill came as Pence presided over a joint session of Congress to confirm Joe Biden’s Presidency. Although considered all but a formality, Trump viewed the January 06 confirmation as his last stand to try and overturn Biden’s victory, issuing a clarion call to his most loyal supporters to attend his “Stop the Steal” march on the same day.

Hundreds of thousands of the President’s supporters descended on the Capitol and were ginned-up by a parade of speakers including Lin Wood, Rudy Giuliani and Don Jr before Trump closed out the rally with a fiery invective calling for a march on the Capitol ahead of the final confirmation vote. Shortly after the President’s speech the Capitol Building was breached and DC Police were overwhelmed by a throng of Trump supporters who pushed past them into the Senate chambers, forcing the hurried evacuation of the members with Mike Pence separately sequestered away in a bunker with his family.

Despite the harrowing events, the Senate reconvened again that evening, after the Capitol Building was cleared out, and Pence fulfilled his duty by confirming Biden’s victory, much to the chagrin of the man who tapped him for VP. In the subsequent days after the assault, Pence was reportedly still furious with President Trump for showing complete disregard for his safety during the assault, telling Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe “…after all the things I’ve done for him.”

Following the Capitol Hill attack Pence and Trump met only once in a meeting that was reportedly amicable but focused on the transition of power to the Biden administration, rather than on the inauspicious end to their partnership. Regardless, as things stand it seems apparent that relations between the two men are still strained and seemingly beyond repair, a far cry from the warm relationship they once shared.

USER POLL: Should Republicans who vote to convict Trump be booted from the GOP?

Former President Trump's impeachment got under way today with 6 GOP Senators siding with Democrats to vote for the proceedings to continue, despite the Trump legal team's argument to dismiss the case on the grounds that it was not constitutional to impeach a President who was no longer in office.

For Donald Trump to be impeached it would require 17 Republican Senators to vote to convict which is extremely unlikely to occur. Nevertheless, some GOP Senate members are still said to be considering voting against their former leader Trump to send a message to the far right of the party that the establishment is still in control. Should those Republican Senators who vote for Trump's conviction be ousted from the GOP?
